Program Goals
- To educate student instructors in both the theory and practical experience needed to educate others in the cosmetology industry.
- To prepare student instructors for successful completion of the Arkansas state board examination.
- To prepare student instructor to prepare a lesson plan on a subject to take a practical exam.
- To develop good ethical work habits and effective communication skills with students, clients, and employers.
Program Description
SAU Tech’s Cosmetology Instructor program requires the student instructor to be a current licensed cosmetologist in the State of Arkansas. The purpose of educating licensed cosmetologists is to give individuals another alternative to the cosmetology industry. The program is open to those that want to share his/her knowledge and love of the profession with others seeking the same knowledge. This part of the profession also offers another advantage for profitable employment in the hairstyling industry.
This is a 24-credit hour program made up of four six-hour courses. The curriculum is based on Milady’s Standard Cosmetology textbook and prepares the student to sit for the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) instructor exam. The estimated total cost of the program for students is $5,817 per student.
SAU Tech currently offers the Cosmetology Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and Cosmetology Technical Certificate. The classroom and lab that are currently being used for these programs will also be used for this program.
General Requirements
- This certificate requires successful completion of 24 credit hours.
- A minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average is required for graduation.
- Satisfaction of all financial obligations due to the college is required for graduation.
Residency Requirement
The student is required to complete a minimum of 15 semester hours in residence at SAU Tech for associate degrees and technical certificates and half of the credit hours required for certificates of proficiency as well as complete all other graduation requirements. Students who wish to pursue additional degrees must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours of difference between the degrees.
