Teaching Certificate of Proficiency

Program Description

Completion of the Teaching Certificate of Proficiency allows the student to be eligible to become a Level 1 Resident in the Arkansas Teacher Residency Program and work as a Certified Teaching Assistant (CTA). As a Level 1 Resident, the CTA is working in a P-12 setting and is enrolled in a degree program to feed into an approved Arkansas Educator Preparation Program (EPP). Level 1 begins with the attainment of the certificate of proficiency until the completion of the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree or admittance to an EPP. 

The coures that make up this certificate of proficiency are included in SAU Tech's Associate of Arts in Teaching degree.

General Requirements

  • This degree requires successful completion of credit hours.
  • A minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average is required for graduation.
  • Satisfaction of all financial obligations due to the college is required for graduation.

Residency Requirement

The student is required to complete a minimum of 15 semester hours in residence at SAU Tech for associate degrees and technical certificates and half of the credit hours required for certificates of proficiency as well as complete all other graduation requirements.  Students who wish to pursue additional degrees must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours of difference between the degrees.
