Arkansas Fire Training Academy
The Arkansas Fire Training Academy is a training division of SAU Tech. The Academy was created by the Arkansas Legislature and is the official fire training agency for municipal and volunteer firefighters in the state of Arkansas. It provides municipal, volunteer and industrial fire and emergency training to first responders in the state. Coursework can tie into the Fire and Emergency Response and the Emergency Medical Services Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree. The Academy programs are recognized by agencies nationwide and internationally. The Academy is:
- Responsible for the Arkansas Fire Incident Reporting System affiliated with the National Fire Incident Reporting System. All fire departments are mandated to report all responses and fires under this system. Each year more departments get on line to report,
- A member of the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Southern Building Code Congress (SBCC), a 20-year sustaining member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), and the Alliance for Fire and Emergency Management. Memberships are maintained in all national agencies contributing to fire and emergency response training,
- A partner with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Arkansas Department of Health & Human Services, State Office of Emergency Services, Federal Emergency Management Agency, National Fire Academy, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other recognized state and national mandating agencies, and
- The state distribution center for the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) training manuals. The Fire Academy Bookstore stocks and distributes IFSTA manuals at or below list price to all fire departments in the state.
